Mission Statement:
-To increase the accuracy of the public’s perception of homelessness
Contributors are designated by number only for the day on which what we have to say is published; the numbers aren’t permanent identifiers.
Homeless shelters aren’t named, also to protect the identities of contributors, who have every reason to fear retaliation from the shelters which are supposed to help us.

Homeless Human 1:
I broke my foot and ankle in January. When I took the boot off and started walking,
I didn’t even make it through 4 days before my tendon ruptured. The doctor has ordered me to stay off my feet
and to use crutches, but I can’t because the staff insists that they “do not
honor doctors’ orders,” so the shelter is making me take my bags every morning
and leave for hours. Then I have to
return and stand in line outside for over an hour to try to get a bed for the
night.
My storage unit is a mile away, so I’m walking 2 miles
each day just because of the bags. I
don’t have a locker at the shelter; I’ve been waiting for one for 7 months,
while I watch new clients get lockers ahead of me.
I am in danger of losing the use of my left foot and
ankle and thus my ability to walk. The
staff are aware of this and absolutely do not care. They are impeding me at every turn and
causing me unnecessary pain and suffering.
I wish their many financial donors were made aware of the conditions I
am being forced to try to survive in.
This is unconscionable.
